Amazon Kindle

Amazon was the first company to bring eBooks into the mainstream, and with their introduction of the Amazon Kindle, they were able to bring digital reading to hundreds of thousands of customers.

The Kindle first debuted in 2007 and was introduced alongside the Amazon Kindle store, a place for users to purchase digital books and download directly to their device.

Amazon Kindle has been through eight different versions, and now its Kindle reader is arguably one of the most popular eBook readers across the globe.

The Company now offers the Kindle in various different versions, including the Kindle paperwhite, which comes with a backlit screen and high-resolution display, whilst the entry-level Kindle ships with a glare free display instead of a backlit screen, meaning that you can read in direct sunlight without seeing your reflection on the shiny screen!

It has also introduced its Kindle Fire, which is a tablet version of its popular eReader. Loaded with the Kindle app, the tablets run on a modified version of both the Android and Fire OS operating systems, and can therefore support web browsing, video streaming and more.

For help getting the most out of your Kindle, or for more information on returns, exchanges or out-of-warranty repairs, give the Amazon phone number at the top of the page a call.

Amazon Fire TV

The company’s Fire TV hardware was introduced into the United Kingdom in 2014 as a set-top box, designed to compete with other digital boxes like Android and Apple TV. The small device allowed its users to bring ‘apps’ to their TV, including BBC iPlayer, 4-On-Demand and of course, services such as Prime Video streaming catalogue.

After the success of set-top-box, the company announced the Fire TV stick, which is a USB powered portable device that plugs into your TV’s HDMI port. Along the same mould as Google’s Chromecast, the Fire TV stick brings voice control to your front room, along with internet streaming services like Netflix.

Amazon Alexa

The next step for is to bring voice control and home automation to your smart house. By using a new device called Amazon Echo, a freestanding speaker that blends together a voice assistant and music streaming, it is looking to let you take control of your smart lights, music, locks, thermostat and blinds using only your voice.

Amazon Echo also integrates with third party services through their ‘Skills’ API, which will let you do things like order Domino’s pizza, book a cab ride with Uber or find out about the weather for the week ahead.

Echo comes in two forms at launch in the UK, over a year since it launched in the United States. There is the main Amazon Echo, which features a full-size speaker and nine microphones, and then the smaller, more compact Echo Dot, which will enable you to have Alexa in multiple rooms without splashing out on the full version.
